Project: Fernaig Cottage, Wester Ross, Scotland
Material: GreenCoat PLX Sheet Steel, sourced via Lindab UK. Profiled by The Metal Roof Company
Colour: Fire Red
Rainwater: N/A
The red tin roof on the old shepherd’s cottage at Wester Ross, Scotland, was for many years a local landmark. It was with care and appreciation of this heritage that architect Gillian Scampton of Pedder and Scampton Architects and Andrew Barnett of Hopkins Architects approached the project.
The result of their combined efforts in renovating, rebuilding and adapting Fernaig Cottage ensured the project was nominated for the 2017 RIBA House of the Year. The use of GreenCoat PLX sheet Steel in the Lindab Fire Red colour for the corrugated roof ensured that sustainable, eco-friendly roof materials were used.
The main house of this development was well established when the owners approached The Metal Roof Company to help source corrugated material for a new, separate extension. The correct colour, grade and size of sheet steel material was sourced via Lindab UK and imported into the UK. The metal roof company then organised specialist metal profilers to form the correct corrugated profile and flashings. Colour matched fixings ensured the new building perfectly matched the existing home.
Fernaig Cottage was featured on Channel 4 TV programme Grand Designs.
“Sean and his team gave us a fantastic service which made all the difference to our project in Scotland. We needed a specific colour profiled roof sheet to match previous buildings on the site but the overseas supplier’s profiling machine had broken. Sean was able to arrange for the materials to be imported from Sweden, profiled in the UK and delivered to the Scottish Highlands all to a very tight timescale and perfect quality. They were a pleasure to deal with.”
